Is video useful for construction businesses?

Video productions can provide many benefits to businesses of all types and when we look at the wide variety of productions we've created over many years, it's clear that clients have a real diversity of requirements.
They might be highlighting their specialist services, providing a consistent safety briefing, engaging with a live audience of potential investors, making a sales pitch to win over funding decision makers, providing education to children in schools, or showcasing their company's capabilities to trade show attendees (to name just a few!)
But when it comes to video production for construction projects, is there a fairly typical set of benefits that most, if not all, construction companies can benefit from?
Are there video investment returns that tend to be relevant to the majority of construction businesses?
If this is the case, could there be an argument that all construction businesses should be utilising video production?
We think there are five key ways that video production benefits construction businesses...
Showcasing 👷♂️ Previous projects can be showcased when bidding for new business
Raising Anticipation 👷♀️ As construction projects develop, videos help raise anticipation amongst interested parties
Grabbing Attention 👷♂️ Videos grab attention and engage new customers
Informing Investors 👷♀️ Project investors are kept informed and up-to-date on construction progress
Capturing Detail
👷♂️ Construction details can be captured before they’re concealed forever
Each of the above is a worthy benefit in its own right.
Number 5 could perhaps been seen as a little introspective - yes, project details can be captured that will soon be concealed forever (or maybe they'll be examined by a building archaeology study in a couple of hundred years!), but does anyone really care? Actually, maybe they will - future customers may want to see this sort of detail, and it will be impossible to show many construction details to them in person.
Number 4 is important as a project cannot happen without investors. These may be people unable to visit a site in person, however they may greatly appreciate regular videos to keep them informed and reassured that everything is on track.
Number 3 is what videos are particularly good at, certainly when they're done well (and it's something that photographic still images cannot compete with).
Number 2 is an important benefit as there will often be people who are waiting for a development to progress, or people in the local area whose feeling of excitement and anticipation for a construction project can be enhanced by videos.
And then there's Number 1 - video productions are unrivalled as a way to showcase past work, they bring projects back to life like nothing else. Being able to show a potential client a selection of immersive and engaging video productions that were filmed during and/or after the construction of previous successes is extremely powerful. Where these videos include footage filmed during the build they can highlight exceptional techniques, materials and working practices, as well as footage showcasing the finished structure.
So, is video useful for construction projects?
Well, we'll let you make your own mind up, but we think when you've read the words above there's only one logical answer!
